Near Long Lake, the trail became more of a game trail some of which we hiked, carrying our skis. Once we reached the ridge above Long Lake, we found the snow on the trail had been packed by snow machines, making it too icy to be much fun to ski. (A little new snow and colder weather would have solved the iciness problem, though.)
