Strong Winds on Mountain Tops Waft Snow Skyward

Snow "Flags" from top of Rocky Peak in Chugach Range

If you watch the mountain peaks you may see a warning that winds are "picking up." Look for the snow begining to "flag" off the peaks. Often snow "flagging" from the mountain tops is an early warning that calm, mild weather on the valley floor is about to change.
