Matanuska River The Matanuska River is a glacial
river that separates the Chugach and Talkeetna Mountains. It flows about
90 miles through spectacular mountain valleys from the Matanuska Glacier
to the Knik Arm of Cook Inlet. The Matanuska is a classic glacial river,
very silty during the summer and a clear turquoise in winter. The Matanuska
meanders, sometimes destructively, in a wide channel south of Palmer.
It has chomped into the bank, destroying homes and property. page updated March 28, 2007 |
